Mistley 140 beat Copdock 70 for 9 by 70 runs
Mistley played newcomers Copdock on Friday evening, losing the toss Mistley found themselves batting.Early progress was good with openers Lou Bibby & Michelle Mauger putting on the runs quickly. Lou was the first to reach 25 and retire. This got Amy Cook to the wicket and the runs continued at a fair pace, Michelle retired on 27 and Amy scored a quick 25 before having to retire. Sophie Southgate and Cath Chinnbry then came together, but not for long Cath cracking a four from her first ball and being bowled on her second. Keeper Ruth Matin joined Soph and the score crept up, Soph was eventually dismissed caught behind for 11, leaving Ruth on 3 not out and young Alice Antliff not out 2. With the extras this left Copdock chasing a formidable target of 140 off their 20 overs. With the accuracy of Cath and the speed of Soph opening the bowling for Mistley Copdock struggled. With Soph getting two leg before's and then taking a smart catch close in off Caths bowling Copdock were soon 5 for 3 off 5 overs with Michelle chipping in with maiden over. With the game in their hands Soph introduced youngsters Beth & Alice Antliff and Laura Dixon. The youngsters bowled extremelly well and kept on top of the Copdock batswomen, Alice chipping in with a wicket with the aid of a catch off a skier by Ruth behind the stumps. Soph then introduced Amy to the attack who took a couple of wickets bowling one and taking a return catch to dismiss a second batswoman. With a few overs left Cath was brought back with Michelle, both of these bowlers keeping a tight line and getting wickets. With four overs left and the light fading fast Soph gave a first bowl to Sarah Barlow and bowled spin herself fom the other end. Copdock's chase ended on 70 for 9 giving Mistley a win by 70 runs and the 20 points. All the girls gave an excellent performance in the field and really enjoyed the game. Best bowling and batting went to Michelle with her 27 not out and with 3 overs, 2 maidens, 2 for 2. The girls wish the Copdock captain who had been involved in a really nasty car accident earlier in the day so missed the game a speedy recovery. Next friday the girls entertain Sudbury.
